The Winchester Boulevard Portrait Show was the first instance of a portrait/shelf show at Chuck E Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre, and the first animatronic show overall at the restaurants. The show opened at the first Pizza Time Theatre, in Winchester Blvd., San Jose, CA in 1977, and only appeared at that location. The show had the portraits spread out around the main theatre in a 360-degree show. Pasqually was placed above the kitchen and would pop out from behind a set of doors and could call out the orders, Jasper was placed on the wall to the left of him, Crusty and Chuck E. were along the back wall, the special guest and applause board were placed on the wall to the right of Pasqually. The Warblettes sat on an elevated platform which hung from the ceiling (their curtains would raise up to reveal them). The stage was called the "1st Gen". Crusty and Chuck E. were fixed on flat surfaces, with movable arms, mouths, and eyes. Originally, Jasper played a real banjo, but this was changed because it would damage Jasper's arm and body along with the banjo itself. Winchester would keep this early version of The Shelf until 1980, when the animatronics would be replaced by the standard Cyberamic model.
